A BRIEF HISTORY

The Cultural Association <Accademia del Chiostro> (Academy of the Cloister), was founded by the italian cellist Donatella Ferraris in 1991 in Genoa.
The collaborators of this association are all musicians involved in the research on musical philology.
In fact it is well known that the musical instruments commonly utilised today in the modern orchestras for the so called “ classical music” are instruments adequate just for the music of this one and last century. The members of the Accademia del Chiostro have studied many documents (original ancient musical treatises, letters, iconographical sources coming from various centuries) with the principal purpose of performing the early musics as it was performed at their time, with a full and philological respect of the opportune musical praxis.
The musical instruments utilised by them are original or exact copies of original instruments preserved in the main european museums.

Since its beginning the association has done for years a huge didactic activity with its Music School organising musical courses for children and adults.
Then, at the same time of the didactic activity, the Accademia del Chiostro, organised with its musicians various concerts in occasions of important musical seasons.

Accademia del Chiostro has organised for years concerts within museums of Genova and its district and since 1997 has realised with the contribution of the District of Genova the musical season “Musica nei Musei”.

In 2001 has started a constant collaboration with the Town Council of Genova for organising the “Avventure nell’ arte” , “Estate Classica” (summertime musical seasons held within museums) and “Anime e Azioni” (wintertime musical season held within museums).

In 2004 “Musica nei Musei” has started in Savona and its district too.
